US President Donald Trump wants to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss a solution to end the Russian war against Ukraine.

The meeting will probably take place in Saudi Arabia "in the not too distant future", Trump said in the White House.

"I'm dealing with President Putin primarily on the phone, and in the end we want to meet," Trump said. "The first time we'll meet will be in Saudi Arabia, we'll see if we can get something done," he said. The two could visit each other later.

Trump on the phone with Putin and Selenskyj

According to the American, Trump and Putin spoke on the phone for more than an hour in the morning. Trump then spoke on the phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

He believes that Putin wants peace, said Trump. The same applies to the Ukrainian president. "I want to see the killing of people stop," he emphasized.

Hegseth: Joining Nato not realistic

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth had previously described Ukraine's accession to NATO as unrealistic.

In a video address, Selensky emphasized that he believes America's strength is great enough to work with Ukraine and its partners to force Russia and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin to make peace. The phone call with Trump went well and in detail, Selensky said.
