US President Donald Trump wants to start talks with Russia and China on nuclear disarmament. He could also imagine a three-way meeting with the presidents of both countries, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, "when things have calmed down", Trump said at the White House in Washington. He wanted to talk to both individually, but also together, the Republican said. "I would like to say: let's cut our military budget in half." It makes no sense for the three countries to spend so much on the military and nuclear weapons.

He is concerned with reducing the number of nuclear weapons "and also that we don't have to spend so much money on weapons, on military weapons in general".
"There is no reason for us to build new nuclear weapons. We already have so many," Trump said. "You could destroy the world 50 times or 100 times, and we're building new nuclear weapons, and they're building nuclear weapons." The money could be invested differently, he argued. Denuclearization is a "beautiful" word, he said.
Trump emphasized that he has a good relationship with both Putin and Xi. "It's about people." He did not care who took the first step. What matters is what comes out as a result.
