US President Donald Trump wants to prevent South Africa's participation in next year's G20 summit in the USA. The Republican wrote on the Truth Social platform that, on his instructions, South Africa would not receive an invitation to the meeting in Miami in December 2026. The US president once again accused South Africa of committing "genocide" against white farmers. Experts and South Africa's government strongly disagree with the alleged genocide.

Trump wants to stop payments

Trump also criticized the country for refusing to symbolically hand over the annually rotating G20 presidency to a high-ranking representative of the US embassy at the end of the most recent G20 summit in Johannesburg a few days ago. The US President was absent from the summit in South Africa, and Vice President JD Vance did not attend either. In this context too, Trump had accused the country without evidence of persecuting and killing white farmers.

The group of leading industrialized and emerging economies (G20) consists of 19 countries, the European Union and the African Union. The countries include the major Western democracies such as the USA, Germany and the UK, but also authoritarian states such as Russia and China.

Trump also announced that the USA would stop all payments and support with immediate effect. What exactly he meant by this remained unclear.

In the fall, Trump announced that the G20 summit would be held in Florida - at one of his own golf resorts. Trump emphasized that the luxury resort "Doral" near Miami was located very close to an airport and was "the best location" for the summit in December 2026. The company behind the golf resort would not make any money.
