Shortly after the controversial presidential election in Uganda, opposition leader Bobi Wine has once again accused the security forces of serious assaults. Soldiers, some of whom were drunk, had stormed his house, looted property and abused his wife, Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, said on the X platform.

"They choked her and insulted her. They took off her blouse and took photos. My wife was taken to hospital where she is being treated for her physical and psychological trauma," wrote the 43-year-old.
Re-elected President Museveni's most important rival
Wine is in hiding after he said he escaped an attempted kidnapping by police and the military about a week ago. His wife Barbie Kyagulanyi remains under house arrest and is said to have been threatened to reveal Wine's whereabouts. The couple have four children.
In the election on January 15, Wine ran against 81-year-old President Yoweri Museveni, who has ruled Uganda in an increasingly authoritarian manner for around 40 years. According to official figures, Museveni won with 71 percent of the vote, while Wine received 24 percent and has spoken of electoral fraud. The former musician is particularly popular with young voters, who make up the majority of registered voters in the East African country with a population of around 50 million.
Police deny allegations
The authorities did not initially comment on the latest allegations when asked. The police had previously denied that security forces had stormed Wine's house.
Uganda is an important development cooperation partner for Germany, particularly in the areas of renewable energies, energy efficiency and agriculture. Among other things, Germany imports coffee, tea and fish from Uganda, while the country purchases machinery and chemical products from Germany.
