Ukraine has once again set its sights on the Russian oil industry. The Kiev General Staff confirmed an attack on the oil refinery in Ryazan, around 200 kilometers southeast of Moscow. A hit had been detected on a plant, the General Staff wrote on social media. The refinery supplies the Russian armed forces, it said, explaining the attack.

The governor of the Ryazan region, Pavel Malkov, only wrote on Telegram that debris had fallen on the site of an industrial plant. There was no major damage or casualties. During the night, 29 Ukrainian drones were shot down over the area. A multi-storey residential building was damaged, but a fire on the roof was quickly extinguished.

On the other hand, unverifiable videos and photos were circulating on social media showing a fire on the site of the local oil refinery and an impact on the roof of a high-rise building.

Second attack within a few weeks

The oil refinery in Ryazan belongs to the Rosneft group and was hit by a Ukrainian drone attack at the end of October. Ukraine has been defending itself against a Russian invasion for almost four years. Most recently, it has been systematically launching counterattacks on the Russian oil and gas industry. The aim is to disrupt the supply of fuel for the Russian military on the one hand and, on the other, to hit the economic sector that is so important for Moscow's financing of the war of aggression.

During the night, Russia attacked Ukraine with drone and missile strikes. Injuries and emergency power cuts were reported in several regions. President Volodymyr Zelenskyi once again accused Moscow of attacking Ukraine's civilian infrastructure.
