The governor of the region, Roman Bussargin, wrote on Telegram that debris may have fallen on an industrial company during a drone attack. The resulting fire has since been extinguished.
In Kiev, Andriy Kovalenko, head of the State Center for Combating Disinformation, confirmed the attack on the plant. He stated that it was not the first attack on this refinery. In addition to the oil plant, the town of Engels in the area had also been attacked. The Engels-2 airbase, where Russia has stationed some of its long-range strategic bombers, is located on the outskirts of Engels.
Flight operations in Russia restricted
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that 40 Ukrainian drones had been destroyed over the Saratov, Rostov, Bryansk, Volgograd and Belgorod regions. The Russian aviation authority Rosaviatsiya stated that, for security reasons, no take-offs and landings were temporarily permitted at the airports in Kazan, Kirov, Saratov and Ulyanovsk.
Ukraine has been defending itself against the large-scale Russian invasion with Western help for almost three years. As part of its defense campaign, it has repeatedly attacked targets on Russian territory in order to disrupt supply routes for the Russian army.
