Ukraine attacks two refineries in Russia

The attack on the refinery in the village of Afipski was confirmed by the operational staff of the Krasnodar region on Telegram. The fire was extinguished in the morning, with 63 firefighters and 26 fire engines involved, it said. There was no information on the extent of the damage. With a processing volume of around seven million tons of oil and gas condensate per year, the plant in Afipski ranks 21st among Russian refineries.

Five places behind it is the Kuibyshev refinery in the Samara region, which was also hit and severely damaged during the night, according to media reports. The independent internet portal "Astra" distributed videos in the morning showing dark clouds of smoke kilometers high above the factory. Officials in Samara have not yet commented on the attack. The Ukrainian General Staff claimed responsibility for both attacks.

More than 100 drones deployed

The Russian military reported the downing of a total of 102 Ukrainian drones. In addition to the Samara and Krasnodar regions, the Rostov region and the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, which has been annexed by Moscow since 2014, were also attacked. As usual, the army command did not provide any information on damage.

Ukraine has drastically increased its attacks on Russian fuel facilities in recent weeks. According to industry experts, up to 17 percent of processing capacities have now been put out of action. Kiev is hoping to torpedo the Russian military's fuel supply. However, the attacks are also having an impact on the Russian economy and for drivers in the country.
