The second day of US-brokered negotiations between the Russians and Ukrainians on an end to the war has begun in the United Arab Emirates.

"We are working in the same format as yesterday: trilateral consultations, group work and further convergence of positions," wrote Ukrainian chief negotiator Rustem Umjerov on Telegram at the start of the second day of negotiations. He also announced that results would be announced later.

Meanwhile, the special envoy of Kremlin head Vladimir Putin, Kirill Dmitriev, stated on state television that progress had been made. "There is good, positive movement forward," he said.

The second round of negotiations on ending the war in Ukraine, which Putin ordered four years ago, is currently underway in Abu Dhabi. The first round took place on January 23/24 after months of radio silence between Moscow and Kiev. It ended without any tangible results, although all sides - including the USA as mediator as well as the two warring parties - emphasized that significant progress had been made. According to reports, a partial ceasefire later announced by US President Donald Trump was also agreed at the meeting, which granted Ukraine a break from the air strikes for at least a few days.
