The Ukrainian army has denied reports of a Russian frontline breakthrough in the section near the towns of Pokrovsk and Dobropillya in the Donetsk region. The infiltration of Russian groups with few men does not yet mean that they will bring these areas under control, the "Dnipro" army group responsible for the front section announced on Telegram. The situation remains difficult and the fighting in this region is the most intense compared to other sections of the front.
Ukrainian military observers had previously reported a Russian advance of more than ten kilometers northeast of the city of Pokrovsk, which is threatened with encirclement. Several military reports had already mentioned the advance of small groups of Russian soldiers into Pokrovsk itself. The agglomeration of the cities of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad is surrounded on three sides by Russian troops. Only a corridor about 15 kilometers wide remains for supplies.
Due to a shortage of soldiers caused by recruitment problems and desertion, Ukrainian commentators are increasingly speculating about a collapse of the front in eastern Ukraine.
Russian missile strike on training ground
Meanwhile, a Ukrainian military training area was attacked by a Russian missile strike during the night. One soldier was killed and eleven others were injured, the Ukrainian land forces announced on Telegram. Twelve military personnel sought medical help with symptoms of stress. The attack was carried out using a warhead with cluster munitions, it said.
The location of the rocket attack was not specified. During the night, an air alert was triggered in several areas, including the capital Kiev, due to a missile strike in north-eastern Ukraine.
Ukraine has been defending itself against a Russian invasion for more than three years.
