A Russian attack on the eastern Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk under cover of fog has been partially successful, according to the defenders deployed there. The 7th Airborne Corps of the Ukrainian army announced that it had succeeded in destroying some of the light vehicles deployed. Nevertheless, enemies had entered the city and were being searched for in order to eliminate them.

Videos had shown Russian soldiers advancing into the city in recent days in bad weather not with heavy equipment, but in cars, on motorcycles or on foot. Kiev Commander-in-Chief Olexander Syrskyj wrote on Facebook that the enemy was taking advantage of the difficult weather conditions.
Pokrovsk, which had around 60,000 inhabitants before the war, and the neighboring town of Myrnohrad have been under attack by the Russian army for more than a year. The tactic of the Ukrainian army command is to hold the cities for as long as possible in order to inflict heavy losses on the attackers. For Moscow, the capture of Pokrovsk would be a psychologically important victory at the end of the summer offensive and a step towards completely conquering the Donbass industrial region.
