Ukraine's Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk has submitted her resignation immediately due to a corruption scandal. "I ask you to accept my resignation from the post of Minister of Energy of Ukraine," she said in a resignation letter published on Facebook.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi had previously asked Hrynchuk and Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko to resign. "I ask the members of parliament to support these requests," said the head of state in a video message. It was a question of trust.

Halushchenko had already been relieved of his duties by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko in the morning.

Ukraine is being rocked by a multi-million euro bribery scandal. It allegedly involved payments not only in the energy sector, but also in the defense sector, which is important for the country's defense.
