According to the Ukrainian secret service SBU, an underwater explosive detonation has seriously damaged a pillar of the Russian Crimean Bridge. "In fact, the bridge is in danger of collapsing", the secret service announced. 1,100 kilograms of TNT were used, which were placed over several months. The agency emphasized that no civilians were harmed in the morning explosion.

A video showing the explosion was published as evidence. Water and smoke can be seen spraying up. The recording is most likely from the bridge base and, according to dpa, is up-to-date, but does not show whether the pillar was actually damaged.

The attack was not initially confirmed by the Russian side. The bridge was closed for around three hours in the morning. According to local media reports, the reason for this was to repair the damage caused by parts of a drone that had been shot down. A short time later, traffic across the bridge was closed again without giving a reason. There was talk in the media of attacks using underwater drones.

Ukraine has been defending itself against a Russian invasion for more than three years. Crimea was annexed by Russia back in 2014. Kiev has already carried out several successful attacks on the combined rail and road bridge, which was completed in 2019. So far, the damage has always been repaired and the bridge has been put back into operation.
