Ultra-right politicians in Jerusalem have sharply criticized a possible ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah militia. "The battle in the north must end in only one way: with the destruction of Hezbollah and its ability to harm the inhabitants of the (Israeli) north," wrote Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich on X.

"We must not allow the enemy to recover from the hard blow it received and reorganize for a continuation of the war after 21 days." Smotrich also wrote: "Hezbollah's surrender or war is the only way to bring the inhabitants and security back to the north."

The far-right coalition party Ozma Yehudit called an emergency meeting in light of the reports of a possible ceasefire, as the news site ynet reported. Netanyahu depends on his ultra-right partners for his political survival
