According to UN figures, the number of Ukrainian civilians injured in Russian attacks reached its highest level for three years in June. 232 people were killed and 1,343 others injured, according to the United Nations Human Rights Mission. The last time the number of injured was higher was in May 2022, a few months after the start of the war. The number of casualties in June was the highest for almost a year.

According to the report, most civilians, just over 50 percent, were harmed by missile and drone attacks in the Ukrainian hinterland, i.e. not in the immediate vicinity of the front line. This was caused by a tenfold increase in the number of missiles and drones used by the Russian military. Only two percent of civilians were injured or killed in Russian-controlled areas.
According to the report, the UN has recorded just over 13,500 civilians killed and over 34,100 injured since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The UN observers assume that the number of unreported cases is higher, as they do not have access to the areas in eastern Ukraine that are now controlled by Russia.
