Secretary-General António Guterres has warned of an "imminent financial collapse" of the United Nations, partly due to the lack of payments from the once largest donor, the USA. The organization's financial situation continues to deteriorate rapidly and if no solution is found, the money for the regular budget could run out in July, according to a letter from the UN chief to the 193 member states, which was made available to the German Press Agency in New York.

Guterres asked all member states to either pay on time or reform the UN's funding regulations. The USA alone currently owes the United Nations several billion dollars in total. US President Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized the organization in the past.
