According to UN reports, the Israeli military has dropped several grenades in the immediate vicinity of blue helmet soldiers in southern Lebanon.

It was one of the most serious attacks on the peacekeepers and their equipment since the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into force last November, Unifil reported in the morning. When asked, the Israeli military said it was investigating the matter.

Unifil soldiers were busy clearing roadblocks near the Blue Line - the border between Israel and Lebanon - at the time of the attack on Tuesday morning, according to the UN mission. The Israeli military had been informed in advance.

One grenade had hit only about 20 meters from UN personnel and vehicles. Three others detonated within a radius of around 100 meters. The drones then withdrew south of the border.

A ceasefire has been in place between Israel and Hezbollah since the end of November. Both sides regularly accuse each other of violations. Israel continues to attack the neighboring country almost daily. The agreement also provides for Hezbollah to withdraw behind the Litani River about 30 kilometers north of the Israeli-Lebanese border. The task of the blue helmets also includes monitoring the withdrawal of the Iran-aligned militia.
