Following the start of the ceasefire, the United Nations World Food Program is urging the Israeli government to quickly facilitate further aid deliveries for the people in the Gaza Strip. "This moment is vital for the people in Gaza," Martin Frick, Germany Director of the World Food Program (WFP), told Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND). "The ceasefire must now bring secure border crossings and clear security guarantees for aid shipments." Every hour counts.

At the border crossings, 60,000 tons of food were ready to enter the country, and a further 100,000 tons were being delivered to the region. This would be enough to supply Gaza for almost three months if access was safe and reliable. In the first month alone, the WFP could reach 1.6 million people with bread, flour and food parcels.
Israel controls access to the Gaza Strip, must allow aid deliveries through and guarantee the safety of convoys. The ceasefire between Israel and the Islamist Hamas has been in force since Friday afternoon.
In the Gaza conflict, a peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump and supported by Israel and Hamas should lead to the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in the coming days. A ceasefire, which should also allow new aid deliveries, has already come into force. However, the further steps that should lead to a lasting peace have not yet been finally clarified.
