A large-scale campaign has been launched in the Gaza Strip to vaccinate children against preventable diseases such as polio and measles. However, the majority of the 1.6 million syringes ordered are still stuck at the borders to the Israeli-controlled Gaza Strip.

This was stated by a spokesperson in Geneva. The solar-powered refrigerators are also still being processed, some of them since August.

Both are considered "dual-use items", i.e. material that can be used for both military and civilian purposes, said the spokesperson. It is difficult to obtain permission from Israel to import such material into the Gaza Strip.

Unicef has now distributed 200,000 blankets for the winter because many people are living in tents that are not winter-proof. A million more blankets are on their way. Tens of thousands of winter shoes and warm clothes have also been distributed.
