Following the US attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, the US State Department has called on American citizens worldwide to exercise particular caution. There is an increased risk both at home and abroad, according to the Department's website. Accordingly, protests against US citizens and interests may occur. Travelers were asked to inform themselves about current travel advice and possible security warnings before traveling abroad.

The US Department of Homeland Security had previously warned of a tense threat situation at home. The conflict with Iran increases the risk of cyber attacks by pro-Iranian actors and violent attacks by extremist individuals.
