Following the agreement of a ceasefire in the Iran war, direct negotiations with Iran are to take place in the Pakistani capital Islamabad on Saturday, according to the White House. US President Donald Trump is sending a delegation including Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, government spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said in Washington. The first talks are due to take place on Saturday morning (local time). It is three hours later in Pakistan than in Germany.
Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had previously invited delegations from the USA and Iran for talks to discuss a final agreement to settle the conflict. According to Pakistani sources, representatives from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt could also take part in the talks.
