The Department of Justice has informed the House Oversight Committee that it will begin making documents available starting this Friday, according to a statement issued by the Republican committee chairman, James Comer, on Monday.
The ministry is storing numerous documents: "It will take some time until all documents are available and the identification of the victims and all material on child sexual abuse has been redacted," he explained. The ministry is thus complying with an order issued by Comer at the beginning of August.
Trump under pressure over publication
The US multimillionaire Epstein, who had systematically abused minors for years, committed suicide in his prison cell in 2019 at the age of 66, according to official reports. His death caused wild speculation in some quarters because he was well connected in US high society. Celebrities and billionaires came and went with him. US President Donald Trump also spent time with Epstein.
In mid-July, Trump announced that he would request the publication of selected court documents. Observers had seen this as a diversionary maneuver by the president to reduce the immense pressure from his core electorate to release all Epstein documents.
