The US Department of Justice has released many more investigation files on the case of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. They include more than three million pages of documents as well as thousands of videos and photos. It also includes pornographic material that Epstein possessed but did not record himself, as reported by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.

It was still unclear immediately after publication on the Ministry's website whether new findings would emerge in the case. Eleven data sets are now available there.

Blanche said that personal data of victims had been removed in order to protect their privacy. Pornographic material featuring children and anything that could hinder investigations at federal level are also being withheld.

For years, the multimillionaire Epstein from New York ran an abuse ring that victimized dozens of young women and minors. For years, he also allegedly abused minors himself in New York and Florida. In 2019, Epstein died in prison at the age of 66 before a possible further conviction could have taken place.

Deadline long since passed

The statutory deadline for the publication of the files has long since passed. The Ministry of Justice should actually have published all files by mid-December - apart from a few exceptions granted by law.

At a press conference, Blanche repeatedly defended the fact that significantly less material was published and with a delay. Much more material was collected than necessary and only relevant material was published. Time was also needed to ensure the protection of victims. At the end of December, the Ministry of Justice suddenly announced that one million new documents had allegedly emerged that could be linked to the scandal.

The Epstein case

The financier had excellent contacts in high society, which led to a great deal of speculation about the extent of the scandal. Again and again, the question arose as to which prominent personalities could have been involved in Epstein's machinations. A law was finally passed at the end of last year ordering the publication of the files, which US President Donald Trump had long resisted.
