The US government under President Donald Trump is revoking the protected status of certain Venezuelans in order to force them to leave the country. Venezuela's role in "encouraging illegal migration" undermines efforts to secure the US border to the south and enable controlled migration, the Department of Homeland Security announced. Temporary Protected Status "encourages" people to travel to the United States without valid documentation.

Temporary protected status was introduced in 2021 under then Democratic President Joe Biden. According to US media, the plan affects a good 250,000 people who would be unlawfully staying in the US if the special rule were revoked.
