According to special envoy Steve Witkoff, the US government is planning a meeting with representatives of Ukraine in Saudi Arabia. This could take place in Riyadh or Jeddah - coordination is still underway, Witkoff said. "I think the idea is to establish a framework for a peace agreement and an initial ceasefire." According to media reports, Witkoff is to take part in the meeting. He himself hinted at traveling to the meeting: "I think I will be in four countries next week and we have to determine the order."

Witkoff also spoke positively about the letter that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyj had written to US President Donald Trump. Trump had previously said that he had received a letter from Zelenskyi in which he had stated that Ukraine was ready for peace negotiations. "An apology was issued. It was recognized that the United States has done so much for Ukraine and a sense of gratitude was expressed," said Witkoff about the content of the letter. The US President is of the opinion that it was a "first positive step".
In February, representatives of the US government had already met with colleagues from Russia in Saudi Arabia to negotiate an end to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. "We want to see peace", Witkoff emphasized once again.
