US President Donald Trump is threatening Iran in no uncertain terms over its ally, the Houthi militia. From now on, every shot fired by the Houthis will be seen as a shot fired by Iran's weapons and leadership, Trump wrote on his online mouthpiece Truth Social. "Iran will be held responsible and will suffer the consequences, and those consequences will be terrible!" Iran is playing "the innocent victim" of out-of-control terrorists. Instead, however, Tehran is dictating the Huthi's every move.

Previously, the Iranian Foreign Ministry and the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) had threatened to respond to initial warnings from the USA with fierce countermeasures. "Iran will consistently respond to any aggression by the USA," said IRGC commander Hussein Eslami. Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei made a similar statement. According to both, Iran has no influence on the Houthi militia. They therefore act independently. Eslami and Baghaei firmly rejected any US interference in Iran's Middle East policy.

On Trump's orders, the US military has again been attacking targets of the militia, which controls the capital Sanaa and other regions in Yemen, since Saturday. According to Huthi reports, at least 53 people were killed. Leading Huthi members have also fled Sanaa. They were instructed to avoid public places.

According to Defense Minister Pete Hegseth, the USA does not want to stop the attacks until the militia stops its attacks on shipping. The Houthis announced a few days ago that they would resume their attacks on ships in the Red Sea. According to their own statements, they want to achieve an end to the blockade of the Gaza Strip by Israel.
