The US government approves the sale of almost 6.7 billion US dollars (around 5.6 billion euros) worth of armaments to Israel. This includes new combat helicopters and armored vehicles, as the responsible authority of the Department of Defense explained. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will also be authorized to purchase 730 missiles for the Patriot air defence system and accessories worth around 9 billion dollars. The US parliament will be informed about the possible arms deals, it was said.

The planned deals with Israel involve these systems:
* 30 Apache combat helicopters and accessories for just under 3.8 billion dollars
* 3,250 armored vehicles for around 2 billion dollars
* Accessories for armored transport vehicles worth around 740 million dollars
* Multi-role helicopters for around 150 million dollars
The USA is Israel's closest ally, also in terms of military support and arms sales. Israel's armed forces also used US weapons systems and ammunition in the Gaza war and in the attacks on Iran last year.
The announcement of the planned arms deals came against the backdrop of increasing tensions in the Middle East. US President Donald Trump has recently threatened Iran with attacks on several occasions and increased the American military presence in the Middle East.
Initially, no time frame was given for any of the planned arms deals. Such deals sometimes involve the conclusion of contracts where the actual delivery of the goods only takes place years later.
