US-Iran talks continue - wrangling into the night

More than eight hours after the talks began, the negotiators met for another face-to-face meeting at the venue in the Pakistani capital Islamabad, as the Iranian state news agency Irna reported. It was the "last opportunity" to find a common framework with the Americans, it said.

Iran expert Ali Vaez from the Crisis Group think tank warned against the backdrop of possible differences on X that stalemates in the talks were not irresolvable. "Each side considers its position reasonable and the other unreasonable. Nothing is agreed until everything is agreed - and even then the whole thing still has to be implemented," he wrote.

It was initially unclear how long the negotiations would continue on Sunday night. Iranian media reported that an extension the next day was possible.
