According to President Donald Trump's US administration, the war in Ukraine must be ended through negotiations. The war is untenable for all sides, said US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on "The Megyn Kelly Show", according to his ministry.

As with any negotiation, "both sides would have to give up something". This will take time, Rubio said. During the election campaign, Trump had said that he could end the Russian war of aggression in 24 hours - but failed to provide any details.

"But at least we have a president who recognizes that our goal is to end this conflict, and to end it in a way that lasts, because it's untenable, for all sides," Rubio said.

He believed that even a growing number of Democrats in the US "would now recognize that what we have funded is a stalemate, a protracted conflict," the US Secretary of State continued. "And perhaps even worse than a stalemate, one in which Ukraine is gradually being destroyed and losing more and more territory. So this conflict must end".
