"Washington Post": US government considers resettlement from Gaza

The two million Palestinian inhabitants are either to be persuaded to leave for another country or moved to closed-off zones within the coastal strip.

Public and private investments in so-called megaprojects are intended to create factories for electric vehicles, data centers, beach resorts and high-rise residential buildings, among other things, reported the Washington Post.

Every Palestinian willing to leave the Gaza Strip would receive 5,000 US dollars (around 4,280 euros) and food for a year, it added.

The plan is to be called the GREAT Trust (Gaza Reconstitution, Economic Acceleration and Transformation Trust). It is based on the ideas already presented by the US President in February to transform the Gaza Strip into a "Riviera of the Middle East".

At the time, Trump's move caused an international outcry and much criticism. According to experts, expelling the Palestinians from the Gaza Strip would violate international law. Critics also argue that mass resettlement to other countries in the region would be a destabilizing factor and a security risk for the Middle East. Other critics expressed doubts about the financing and implementation of the plan.
