According to the White House, the investigation into the fatal shooting in Minneapolis is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and a law enforcement agency within the US Department of Homeland Security. FBI and the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agency are questioning the officers involved in the "unfortunate tragedy," government spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told reporters.

The state of Minnesota, where Minneapolis is located in the north of the USA, had asked the US government to grant it access to the investigation. The state obtained an injunction from a court to ensure that no evidence relating to the shooting involving federal officials was destroyed or altered.

On Saturday morning, 37-year-old US citizen Alex Pretti died as a result of shots fired by federal officers. The US government was quick to portray the fatal shooting as self-defense. Video footage of the incident gives a different impression.

Government spokeswoman Leavitt was at pains to emphasize that Trump wanted to let the facts of the investigation speak for themselves. When asked by journalists whether the President agreed with the term "domestic terrorist", which Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller had used for the shot Pretti, Leavitt replied that she had not heard the President characterize Mr Pretti in this way. Trump had emphasized after the Truth Social shooting that Pretti had a gun and two other loaded magazines.
