According to the White House, US President Donald Trump is "extremely frustrated" with Russia and Ukraine. The Republican is tired of meetings just for the sake of meetings, said his spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt at a press conference. He did not want to see more talks, but action. Trump is "extremely frustrated with both sides of this war" and wants the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine to end.

At the same time, Leavitt emphasized that the USA remained committed to achieving this goal. Following Trump's talks with the Europeans on Wednesday, a team led by his special envoy Steve Witkoff is currently talking to both sides. It is therefore still unclear whether the USA will send representatives to a meeting in Europe at the weekend, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyj is also due to attend.

If there is a real chance of a peace agreement being signed, if the USA believes that these meetings are worth someone from their country attending, then they will send a representative. "It's still unclear whether we believe that real peace can be achieved and we can really move forward," Leavitt said.

With regard to Ukraine's response to the peace plan submitted by the United States on Wednesday, she merely stated that Trump had been informed. The US President had said the previous day that the USA had also been invited to a meeting with Zelenskyi in Europe at the weekend. He left it open as to whether the USA would take part and, if so, at what level.
