Trump will take part in a bilateral meeting with Xi in the morning before flying back to Washington in the evening, said his spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt.
He wanted to talk to Xi about fentanyl, among other things, the US President explained in response to a corresponding question about the drug. Trump has repeatedly accused China of being partly responsible for fentanyl problems in the USA.
Before Trump travels to South Korea, he will fly to Malaysia and Japan, according to his spokeswoman. He will begin his trip to Asia this Friday late in the evening (Washington local time), she said. It was previously known that Trump and Xi want to meet on the sidelines of the Apec economic summit, which begins on October 31 - although a date has not yet been publicly announced.
