US special envoy Steve Witkoff wants to travel to Moscow again in the coming days to discuss ending the Russian war of aggression with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt announced such a meeting for "later this week". Witkoff had spoken to Putin personally several times in the past and always spoke conspicuously positively about the Russian president following the talks.

It was unclear whether Witkoff would nevertheless take part in talks on peace in Ukraine in London on Wednesday. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was also expected to attend the talks. When asked whether Rubio would be accompanying Witkoff to Moscow and therefore not traveling to London, Leavitt did not give an answer. She referred to the US State Department.

Under US President Donald Trump, the USA has made a sharp change of course and is no longer prepared to support Ukraine in its long-term defense against the Russian invasion. Above all, Washington is putting pressure on Kiev to achieve peace quickly.
