"We believe that this Russian attack actually violated the agreements reached. There must be consequences," said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi at a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Kiev.
Ukraine would contact Washington to mark the occasion. "I hope that the partners will not remain silent about what is going on," warned Zelensky. He accused Russia of betting on a continuation of the war.
Zelensky asks for more anti-aircraft missiles
It was one of the most serious Russian attacks with ballistic missiles. "Patriot systems are most effective against ballistic missiles. This means that we need more missiles for the Patriots. The deliveries must be larger and faster," emphasized the head of state. He had discussed this with Rutte.
Selensky thanked the NATO Secretary General for coordinating the NATO arms purchase program PURL for the Eastern European country. However, the Ukrainian head of state did not provide any information on new contributions from the allies. Ukraine's monthly requirements for 2026 have been estimated at the equivalent of around 1.1 billion euros (around 1.01 billion Swiss francs).
Last Friday, US President Donald Trump declared that Russia had agreed to a one-week waiver on strikes against energy facilities at his request. Moscow later confirmed this agreement. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, however, the limited ceasefire only applied until last Sunday.
