Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has called on the country's air defense to better protect its facilities in view of the massive damage to its energy infrastructure caused by the Russian attacks. "The leadership of the air force must react much faster in terms of protection," said Zelenskyi in his evening video message. He explained this at a meeting with the defense minister and the commander of the air force. There are massive power and heating failures throughout the country.

The situation is not only difficult in the capital Kiev, but also in the regions of Kharkiv, Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Chernihiv and Sumy, among others. "Of course, Kiev is now facing the most challenges," said Selenskyj. "The majority of houses have no heating, including those that have been without heating for a long time."
The president criticized that the results so far have not been sufficient. "I expect the Kiev authorities to step up their work - many cities and municipalities are ready to help," he said. "I have instructed the government to provide additional resources." More warming points are also needed.
Zelenskyi wants to bring forward next meeting with Russians
In Kiev, Zelensky also met with his delegation, which had held direct negotiations with the Russian side in Abu Dhabi on Friday and Saturday under US mediation. "After a long time, there was a meeting with the Americans and Russians again. We discussed various issues of a more military nature - measures to end the war," said Selensky. It was also about the control and monitoring of a possible future ceasefire, he said.
The provisional plan is for the teams to meet again next Sunday. "It would be good if this meeting could be brought forward," said Selensky. Russia should not use the negotiation process for its own purposes; what is needed is pressure on Moscow to end the war. "The partners must not forget this," said Selensky.
Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian war of aggression for almost four years. No agreement is yet in sight in the negotiations. Moscow believes the talks are only just beginning.
