Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has called on his country's allies to strengthen their air defenses ahead of the start of the Geneva talks on US President Donald Trump's peace plan.

Negotiations between representatives of the USA, Germany, France and the UK are taking place in Switzerland today. "But parallel to the diplomatic path, we must do everything we can to strengthen our protection against such devious Russian attacks," he said. "It is very important to accelerate the implementation of all our agreements with partners on air defense systems and missiles."

Talks on Trump's 28-point plan to end the war in Ukraine are due to begin in Geneva this morning. The plan demands numerous concessions from Ukraine in particular. Selensky had said in advance that Ukraine was experiencing one of the most difficult moments in its history.

More than 2,000 attacks with drones, bombs and missiles

In the past week alone, Russia has deployed more than 1,050 drones, around 1,000 glide bombs and more than 60 missiles and cruise missiles against Ukraine, Selensky announced.

In a video released to accompany the strikes, the President also recalled that 33 people were killed in a partially destroyed residential building in the city of Ternopil in western Ukraine on Wednesday in a Russian missile attack. Six children were among the dead and around 100 people were injured, according to the authorities. The rescue work was completed on Saturday evening. Six people were reported missing.

Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian war of aggression for more than three and a half years with Western help.
