Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has hinted at a top-level meeting next week in the talks on ending the war. "Next week there will be important negotiations not only for our delegation, but also for me, and we are preparing solid ground for these negotiations," he said in his evening video message from Kiev.

The Ukrainian head of state did not provide any details. However, following negotiations between the USA and Ukraine on a peace plan, there is talk that Zelenskyi could meet US President Donald Trump once again. Both sides recently signaled that there is a largely common position. There are only minor differences, it was said - although it is possible that this hides the central question of how to deal with the Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine.
Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin has reiterated that there will be no agreement if the Ukrainian army does not vacate its last positions in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in the Donbass. Ukraine has so far refused to do so and does not want to legally relinquish occupied territory.
Selenskyj: Moscow ignores peace efforts
Selenskyj said: "The Russian war is continuing and we are all hearing that Russia is ignoring the efforts of the world's most important powers to really end the war with a lasting peace." Whether there will be peace, however, does not depend on Russia's threats.
Putin ordered the large-scale invasion of the neighboring country more than three and a half years ago.
