Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has declared his willingness to resign in return for the country's accession to NATO. "If it is about peace for Ukraine, then I am ready (to leave my post)", said the head of state at a press conference in Kiev. This could also be in exchange for his country's admission to the military alliance. His priority was security guarantees for Ukraine, and joining NATO was the best option. He himself does not want to govern for decades.

Monday marks the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of the Eastern European country. One of the reasons for the war announced by Russia is to prevent its neighbor from joining the western military alliance NATO. Most recently, the new US administration under President Donald Trump also urged Kiev to hold presidential elections. Selensky's term of office was originally due to end in May last year, but was extended due to the ongoing martial law.
