The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyj is expected in Austria shortly. At around 1 p.m., Selensky will be greeted with military honors by Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen.

This was announced by the Chancellery. After a meeting with the head of state and a press conference, Mr. Selensky will also meet with Prime Minister Christian Stocker. Austria is one of the last EU countries to be visited by the Ukrainian President since the Russian attack on his country.

Austria is not a member of NATO. It considers itself to be militarily neutral, but not politically neutral. According to the Foreign Office, the Alpine republic has mobilized around 300 million euros in bilateral state financial and humanitarian aid for Ukraine and its particularly affected neighbouring states since the start of the war. The right-wing FPÖ, which is considered Russia-friendly, has criticized the visit and sees it as a violation of the neutrality principle.

After his stop in Austria, Selenskyj will travel on to the G7 summit in Canada. A meeting with US President Donald Trump is also planned there.
