In view of the destruction of the Ukrainian power grid, the Kiev government will support homeowners in purchasing generators and other energy sources. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky after a consultation with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. In his video message in the evening, Zelenskyi said that the purchase of an autonomous power supply should become more affordable for communities of owners of apartment buildings and single-family homes.

Another program for companies had already received 20,000 applications for subsidies for the maintenance and repair of generators. In addition, half a billion hryvnia (just under ten million euros) in interest-free loans had been granted for the purchase of generators, he said. However, the need is likely to be much greater and cannot be covered by the figures mentioned by the President.
New power cuts announced
Several Russian airstrikes since the beginning of January have damaged the Ukrainian energy supply to such an extent that Kiev, Kharkiv and other cities have hardly any electricity and heating in the severe frost. In the capital, more than 1,100 apartment blocks will not be heated until spring. Companies are keeping operations running by using diesel generators.
The state utility Ukrenergo has also announced hour-long power cuts in all parts of the country for this Tuesday.
