Zelenskyi wants to upgrade the army with the help of a British billion-euro loan. "The funds will flow into weapons production in Ukraine," wrote Zelenskyi on Platform X. The loan will improve Ukraine's defense capabilities and will be repaid with the proceeds from frozen Russian assets. "This is true justice - the one who started the war must also pay for it," Selensky wrote.

The governments of the UK and Ukraine had signed a contract on Saturday for a British loan of the equivalent of 2.74 billion euros to help with the defense against Russia's attack. Selensky had previously been received by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the seat of government in London's Downing Street.

Selensky thanked the British government for its "great support from the beginning of the war" and continued: "We are happy to have such strategic partners and to share the same vision of what a secure future for all should look like."

During the meeting, Starmer assured his guest of "unwavering support for Ukraine". The United Kingdom would stand by Ukraine's side for as long as necessary. The UK is one of Ukraine's most important donors and is supporting the country with military aid of the equivalent of over 3.5 billion euros per year until at least the financial year 2030/31.
