Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has confirmed media reports about an upcoming meeting with his US counterpart Donald Trump in Washington. "I am meeting President Trump in Washington this week," the head of state told journalists at a press conference with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas in Kiev. Selensky also confirmed Friday as the date of the visit. The President went on to say that one of the topics of the talks would be the delivery of extensive weapons to Ukraine. A Ukrainian delegation including the head of government, Yulia Svyrydenko, the head of the president's office, Andriy Yermak, and the secretary of the Ukrainian Security Council, Rustem Umyerov, is already on its way to Washington.

Tomahawk cruise missiles on the wish list
At the top of Kiev's wish list is the delivery of Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range of around 2,500 kilometers. The weapons could be financed by NATO partners, a "mega-deal" with the USA or the Russian funds frozen in the EU.
The Kremlin had emphatically warned the White House against such a delivery and the risk of a nuclear backlash. In the past, the US armed forces have used sea-based Tomahawk missiles in armed conflicts. Kiev does not yet have suitable warships or submarines, but the USA also has a new land-based variant.
Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian invasion for more than three and a half years with Western help.
