The Zug government wants to cover almost the entire cost of inpatient hospital treatment for the population of Zug in 2026 and 2027. It expects this to involve additional expenditure of around CHF 220 million.

This measure will reduce the average health insurance premium per person by around 18 percent, as announced by the canton of Zug on Thursday. The average annual premium per person will therefore be 700 francs lower. The reduction varies depending on the insurance model, age group and health insurance company.

The government intends to submit the proposal directly to the cantonal council. A referendum-capable resolution is expected to be passed at the end of January 2025.
