Nicole Barandun, a centrist National Councillor from Zurich, is not running for the vacant seat on the Federal Council. The 56-year-old is not running for professional reasons.

Barandun has been a member of the National Council since 2023. She is a lawyer and president of the city's trade association. According to the Tages Anzeiger newspaper, she will take over the chairmanship of a bank in a month's time.
National Councillor Philipp Kutter had already withdrawn earlier. According to a press release issued by the cantonal party on Monday, government councillor Silvia Steiner and the third member of the Zurich National Council, Yvonne Bürgin, have also decided not to stand as candidates. As a result, there will be no candidate from the canton of Zurich to succeed Viola Amherd, according to the press release.
