The Bülach District Court has sentenced a 45-year-old man to two years' imprisonment and a six-year ban from the country. The man had entered the country with a group that he claimed to be Cameroon's national handball team.

On arrival at Zurich airport, the 45-year-old Cameroonian explained that he and his team were on their way to the Africa Cup in Egypt.

However, they were not handball players at all. According to the indictment, this was merely a pretext to obtain the necessary documents. By providing false information, the accused enabled the 19 people to enter Switzerland without a visa. All of them went into hiding in Switzerland and France.

By accompanying the alleged handball team, the 45-year-old was guilty of qualified facilitation of unlawful entry into Switzerland and unlawful residence. He has been in prison since January. He will now be released, handed over to the migration office and forced to leave the country.
