The Swedish police have closed their investigation into the fatal shooting at a school in the city of Örebro.

The decision to close the case is part of the legal process and is based on the fact that the suspected lone perpetrator is dead and therefore no charges can be brought in the case, explained head of operations Henrik Dahlström.

Örebro is located about 200 kilometers west of Stockholm. Four months ago, a 35-year-old man suddenly opened fire in an educational facility for adults, killing ten people and himself. Other people were injured in the attack, some of them seriously. It was one of the worst acts of violence in Sweden in recent history.

No ideological motive

The police had searched extensively for the motive for the crime and came to the conclusion in mid-May that it had to do with the perpetrator's life situation and the resulting frustration. He had wanted to kill himself for these reasons, in a place to which he had a personal connection, Dahlström had reported.

The 35-year-old chose his victims at random. The investigators found no signs of a political or ideological motive.
