An investigating judge in Paris wants to hear two complaints filed by the Foodwatch organization against the food company Nestlé and Sources Alma. This was reported by the AFP news agency, citing a source familiar with the case.
The criticism focuses on prohibited disinfection systems in mineral water production. Foodwatch filed two lawsuits in this context last fall.
"It is with great satisfaction that we welcome the announcement that judicial investigations will be initiated in these cases," a lawyer for the organization told AFP in response. He is now calling for the judiciary to fully investigate the "fraudulent machinations".
Nestlé Waters had admitted in 2024 to having used disinfection systems (UV lamps, activated carbon) to maintain the "food safety" of its Vosges waters (Vittel, Contrex and Hépar). At the same time, Nestlé stated that "the food safety and quality of its natural mineral waters have always been guaranteed and that their unique mineral composition has always been maintained as indicated on the labels".
Nestlé did not wish to comment on the media report when asked by the news agency AWP. The company would not comment on ongoing legal proceedings, a spokeswoman said. The company would continue to cooperate with the authorities.
