The Zurich public prosecutor's office has concluded its investigation into the death of Zurich SVP National Councillor Alfred Heer. There were no indications of any third-party fault. Heer died of acute heart failure.

At the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency, the Zurich public prosecutor's office confirmed a corresponding report by the "Tages-Anzeiger" newspaper on Thursday. According to the findings of the Institute of Forensic Medicine, acute heart failure was the cause of Heer's death on September 19 of this year. Heer was suffering from a pre-existing serious heart condition.

The 63-year-old died unexpectedly during the fall session. The Zurich city police confirmed at the time that they had been called to a medical emergency in Zurich's district 4. Heer's death could only be confirmed at the scene.

Heer was a long-standing member of the National Council and the Council of Europe. He entered the political arena in 1994 when he was elected to the Zurich City Parliament, after which he was a member of the Cantonal Council and, since 2007, a member of the National Council. He was elected to the Council of Europe in 2011.
