Mr. Cassis told the Keystone-SDA news agency that Switzerland's experience representing US diplomatic interests in Iran was of interest to Iraq. Switzerland is also interested in transferring its knowledge to this region.

Iraq, which is seeking stability after many years of conflict, wants to make a name for itself as a mediator. In particular, the country is working to calm relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

The Federal Councillor's visit is part of a process to intensify the Swiss presence in Iraq that has been initiated in recent years.
