The woman worked as an accountant for a service company, the Ticino cantonal police and the public prosecutor's office announced on Monday. The company was part of an international group of companies based in the Lugano region.

The 54-year-old is suspected of having falsified VAT invoices to the Federal Tax Administration. The exact amount of the unlawfully obtained sums is currently being reconstructed. However, it is clear that the amounts were used for personal purposes, the press release continues.

The alleged offenses are said to have spanned several years. Various bank and accounting documents were seized at the same time as the initial interrogations. These will now be investigated in greater depth, the statement continued. The role of a second person involved is also being investigated.
